Mega Salamence makes its Pokémon GO debut in Twinkling Fantasy event running from January 10th to 16th (2024)

Niantic has announced details for the upcoming Dragon- and Fairy type themed Twinkling Fantasy event in Pokémon GO, which will be starting in-game on January 10th at 8:00am, and running through to January 16th at 10:00am local time. This event will feature the Pokémon GO debut of Mega Salamence.

• 2× XP for successfully catching Pokémon using Nice Throws, Great Throws, and Excellent Throws.
• Additional Candy for successfully catching Pokémon with Nice Throws, Great Throws, and Excellent Throws.
• Increased chance for Trainers level 31 and up to receive Candy XL for successfully catching Pokémon with Nice Throws, Great Throws, and Excellent Throws.
• Trainers can take an in-game snapshot to have a surprise encounter with a Dragon- or Fairy-type Pokémon

A Collection Challenge and Field Research tasks themed around Dragon- and Fairy-type Pokémon will be available as part of the Twinkling Fantasy event. Completing this Collection Challenge will award Trainers with 50 Salamence Mega Energy, a Charged TM, and a Fast TM, while completing the Field Research tasks will award an encounter with one of five Pokémon (see below).

Zekrom caught in Five-Star Raids between January 10th at 10:00am, and January 18th at 10:00am local time will know the Electric-type attack Fusion Bolt, which is making its debut to the game with this event. Fusion Bolt will deal 90 Power in Trainer Battles with an Energy cost of 45, and 140 Power in Gyms and Raids with an Energy cost of 100, Duration of 2 seconds, and Damage window of 1.25-1.8 seconds..
